Never underestimate the power of The Men's Club.
It seems that men are able to make friends easily. They can bond through sports, current events, hobbies, or plain old man talk. You put a bunch of random women together, you may get a scene from one of The Real Housewives shows. Men not only get along, they form a club.
For my husband, The Men's Club can consist of someone he played golf with (even once), his coworkers, his frat, old college friends, someone else's husband, neighbor, male family members, the UPS man , another man walking his dog, or anyone or anything seen or heard on ESPN or the Golf Channel.
A while ago, I brought up XYZ to the Hubs, and he wasn't really even listening to me, until XYZ happened to come up later during a Men's Club conversation. Once those men started sharing stories and a member cosigned it, he was all set. He even came back to me a few weeks later with a "great idea" ( which was the same damn XYZ I told him about a few weeks ago). As he is repeating it back to me like it's brand new information, I just casually say, " Really, that sound cool!".
Now, my hubs is a great spouse and very attentive, he listens to the important stuff, but sometimes I tell him things and it goes in one ear and out the other (unless I make a big fuss).
We women have The Girls, which consists of our college BFFs, sisters, Oprah, gym buddies, and play date mothers. Unfortunately, The Girls don't have the same pull as The Men's Club. The Girls are for gossiping and venting, with a lot of agreeing and opinions, but no real solutions. When I bring to the Hubs something I learned from The Girls Club (usually Oprah) its not met with the kind of enthusiasm that I had imagined. :( The Men's Club, on the other hand, has a solution to the problem. They seem to get things done. :)
So I guess I'll just plant ideas and wait for the next Men's Club meeting.
Do you love it? I do.
