Birthday Milestones

With my 35th birthday approaching, I have been thinking about all my past milestone birthdays.  I can tell a lot about my life and how I have changed over the years.

My 21st and 25th birthdays included taking shots, dancing on bars, and partying with a gang of girlfriends. Mixed drinks, party clothes, Smirnoff Ice, and a lot of noise, dancing, music, and laughing were also invited.  It probably also happened on a school night ( gasp).  I loved every minute of it, and I wouldn't have done it any other way.  My BFFs and I still laugh and joke about all of our past milestone birthdays.  They were rowdy, fun, and full of excitement.  A great experience was had by all.  I wasn't a wife or mother, just a young girl who liked to celebrate.

Now, 10+ years later, I'm getting ready for my 35th birthday.  It will be the complete opposite of my past birthdays.  I will be taking a weekend to enjoy myself at a resort and spa.  Yup, I'm taking my hall pass ( see last July's post) and combining it with my birthday present. A weekend spent reading, doing yoga and other outdoor activities,  relaxing, getting a massage, and watching TLC without a care in the world.  Alone.  No bar, no shots, no BFFs, and no short skirts.  Wait......I can't promise that there won't be any shots. It is an important birthday.  ;)

I can promise it will be me, my yoga pants, and my iPad.  That's how the 2012 version of myself will kick it this year.  The same version that also knows it's not always a bad idea to give myself some time to recharge and celebrate with the most important person I know ( me).   This birthday I'm keeping for myself.

At 25, I needed to party it up with my friends, and at 35 I can respect having some "me time".  Who knows what I'll need at 45 or 55.   Life has a way of changing you while bringing you back full circle. You may see me at 55 back on the bar taking shots with the Hubs and my old lady BFFs.

Yes Maci, I may even have a cup of chamomile tea.

Do you love it?  At 35 I do!
